Learning from the best
Last month Allianz hosted 16 young golfers, two from the UK, and their mentors for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the home of golf, St Andrews Links in Scotland. The young golfers and their mentors came from 8 different countries and enjoyed 5 days of golfing experiences and inspiration as well as the chance to learn from the Pros.
Special guest, 2014 European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley was joined by Pro-golfer and Solheim Cup 2013 winner Beatriz Recari with our participants from Germany, Austria, France, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Czech Republic, Portugal and Ireland.
Joined by Paul and Beatriz, our young golfers from around the world took part in a variety of sessions from rounds of golf, coaching sessions, putting contests and team building activities. The group enjoyed playing the world famous Old Course with Paul, who gave a few tips from his many years tackling this infamously difficult golf course. During their stay, the group have also had Beatriz show them a few handy tricks at the St Andrews Links Golf Academy, where the latest technology is used to assist golfers in improving their game.
It wasn't all about modern golf, the group also visited the Kingarrock Hickey golf course which uses the old style of clubs played with in the 1890s. There was plenty of activity off the course, with both Paul and Beatriz taking part in a private Q&A session where the teenagers and their mentors could ask a variety of questions. Paul and Beatriz candidly explained their pre-tournament superstitions and spoke about who the mentors have been in their careers.
In combination with the annual Golf Camp, Allianz also announced the extension of the global partnerships with both Beatriz Recari and Paul McGinley, further strengthening our commitment to golf and supporting the game globally.
Iain from I and D Insurance was extremely happy with the Allianz Golf Camp and believes he really has learnt from the best.
"Alex has just finished joint top Scottish player at the Loretto Under 14 Boys and Girls Scottish Open held at Bothwell GC and has made his debut for Scotland in a friendly international match against France. I have reduced my handicap from 7 to 6 (5.7 exact) lowest I’ve been for 2 years. I believe the experience of attending the Allianz Golf Camp event was the inspiration and listening to Paul and Beatrix gave us the belief that anything is possible if you work at it. Thank you Allianz."
About the golf camp
In the year of the 2014 Ryder Cup and one year before the 2015 Solheim Cup in Germany, the Allianz Golf Camp promotes the importance of being part of a team and having mentors such as Allianz Golf ambassadors Paul McGinley and Beatriz Recari. The game of golf is becoming more accessible to youth and Allianz wants to inspire the next generation of young golfers to take up the sport through initiatives such as the annual Allianz Golf Camp.
Watch out for future once-in-a-lifetime competitions for your chance to share in the experiences Allianz Sponsorship offers.
